Licensed Attorney at Law and Public Notary.
Started working at the Costa Rican Judicial Branch in 1975 as a member of the Judicial Investigation Organism (OIJ, Organismo de Investigación Judicial) until 1977.
In 1985, the Supreme Judicial Court selected him as a Judge of the First Superior Criminal Court from San José (Tribunal Superior Primero Penal de San José). He worked there until the middle of the year of 1986, when he was appointed as Chief of the Public Ministry from 1986 to 1989.
Between 1986 and 1987 he participated in Latin American Seminars related to the Modern Criminal Process celebrated in Dominican Republic and Ecuador, sponsored by The Latin American Institute for Offence Prevention and Treatment to the Offender.
From 1990 to 1994 he was the Vice-Minister of Government and Justice within the Executive Branch.
He worked as Vice-Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce, and Vice-Minister of Government and Justice from 1998 to 2002.
Due to his long and successful career path, he has become one of the most distinguished criminal lawyers in Costa Rica. Eduardo Araya has also extensive teaching experience as a University Professor in the areas of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure.
He is a litigation lawyer, specialized in Criminal, Migratory, and Criminal-Constitutional Law.
